The discharge process starts when the treating physician gives the discharge order and ends when the patient's bill is issued.
Discharge step by step
- The treating physician visits the patient and issues the discharge order
- Complete the medical record, give the patient the necessary instructions and hand over the discharge summary (nurse)
- Check every sheet of the file and make sure all services are correctly entered in the hospital information system (ward clerk)
- Record the discharge in the hospital information system and send the complete file to the discharge office (ward clerk)
- Review the file again, calculate the charges and issue the bill (discharge officer)
- Ask the patient's companion to settle the bill (discharge officer)
- Issue the original bill and the discharge permit (discharge officer)
- Stamp the patient's discharge sheet (ward nurse)
- The discharge permit is handed to the security guard and the patient leaves the hospital
