Preparation form for kidney X-ray (IVP):
- Because this centre has inpatient wards and requests for inpatients take priority, and because of tasks related to your X-ray such as preparing the medicine and inserting an IV line, allow about two hours for your time in the department.
- If you have had a contrast X-ray or a CT scan with contrast injection in the past 10 days, tell the staff.
- For outpatients who are unwell, be sure to arrange this with the staff of the relevant unit before the patient comes to the department.
- The contrast medium injected for the requested X-ray leaves the body in the urine and poses no risk to you or those around you.
- Although the injected medicine is free of side effects, your kidney function must be checked by a doctor to be sure. For this reason, you must bring the results of urea and creatinine tests done no more than two days before the X-ray.
- Women who think they may be pregnant must tell the staff of the relevant unit.
Bowel preparation plan
- On the afternoon of the day before the X-ray, have a simple meal at 6 pm.
- At 7 pm, take castor oil, followed by 2 bisacodyl tablets.
- At 8 pm, chew 2 dimethicone tablets and swallow them without water.
- At 10 pm, chew another 2 dimethicone tablets and swallow them without water.
- At 6 am on the day of the X-ray, chew 2 dimethicone tablets, and at 8 am come to the radiology department without having eaten (fasting).
The patient must be accompanied by one companion.
