ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction is most commonly performed arthroscopically. Through one or two small incisions in the knee, a graft is taken from the patellar tendon or the hamstring tendons and tunnels are drilled in the tibia and femur. The graft is passed across the knee into the position of the original ligament and is usually fixed with screws.
