In knee replacement surgery (arthroplasty), the damaged surfaces of the knee joint are removed and replaced with artificial components to relieve pain and improve movement. In this package both knees are operated on.
Before surgery
- If you take any medicines or supplements, tell your orthopaedic surgeon; you may need to stop some of them before surgery.
After surgery
- Every patient needs a walker or cane for a while – at least two weeks, depending on their condition and the complexity of the knee replacement.
- Keep the wound dressing on for 10 days to two weeks; the stitches are then removed.
- Do not drive for two months after the operation.
Tests and consultations needed before surgery
- Laboratory tests: CBC, FBS, HbA1c, ESR, CRP
- Imaging: Knee X-rays and MRI, chest X-ray
- Consultations: ECG
