- The stool sample must be collected directly into the container given to the patient by the laboratory.
- The stool sample must not be contaminated with urine or water, because some active parasites are destroyed by urine.
- If the stool sample is not watery and the test cannot be done within 30 minutes of collecting the sample, the sample must be put in the fridge; but if the stool sample is diarrhoeal and watery, it must be brought to the laboratory within 30 minutes.
